WILDERNESS ADVENTURES CLUB (WAC)

17th edition of the Leader's Reference Book (LRB), 2009

ICO Vol consolidated appn packet.pdf
This file can be printed out and mailed to Dave Fujiyama by adults who wish to be certified as an OC ICO Volunteer, or as an OC ICO Leader.

Ldrs matrix.pdf
This pdf file allows our Sierra Club Orange County Inner City Outings (OC ICO) leaders to access the LEADERS matrix.  You'll know at a glance whether you need to address any upcoming deadlines to maintain your leadership status.

Ldrs matrix.xls
This Microsoft Excel file is the same matrix as the pdf file above, but if you have Excel on your computer, this format will allow you to scroll over the cells and view the comments, which may be very helpful in clarifying certification requirements.

OC ICO's Newsletter THE BLOSSOM
What a cool name for your new newsletter!  Thanks, Editor-in-Chief Barbara Creighton!

All OC ICO Leaders are required to first fulfill requirements to be a Volunteer.

Requirements for OC ICO Volunteers

  1. Sierra Club membership
  2. ICO Volunteer Consolidated Application packet (see bottom of page)--renew this every 4 years.  This packet contains:
    1. Application
    2. Agreement
    3. Code of Ethics
  3. Background checks--at no cost to you--renew every 4 years
    1. DMV driving record
    2. Criminal background check
    3. Sex Offender check
  4. Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention (CARP) training--renew annually

Requirements for OC ICO Certified Leaders
  1. Sierra Club membership
  2. ICO Volunteer Consolidated Application packet (see bottom of page)--renew this every 4 years.  This packet contains:
    1. Application
    2. Agreement
    3. Code of Ethics
  3. Background checks--at no cost to you--renew every 4 years
    1. DMV driving record
    2. Criminal background check
    3. Sex Offender check
  4. Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention (CARP) training--renew annually
  5. LTC or ICO OLT 101--renew every 4 years
  6. Basic First Aid--renew every 4 years
  7. Adult CPR (renew every 4 years if you're a provisional leader.  Once you earn your leadership rating, you don't have to keep renewing this...but I'd be happy if you kept yours current...you never know when you'll need these lifesaving skills, right?)
  8. Wilderness First Aid--renew every 4 years if you're an I-, M-, or E-rated provisional leader.  If you've already earned your I-, M- or E-level (i.e, you're not provisional any longer), then you don't have to be current in WFA...but it's a really good idea to keep these skills honed if you lead in the backcountry.

Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention (CARP)

Sierra Club requires all adult ICO Volunteers and ICO Leaders to renew their Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention training at least once a year.

CARP is a mandatory annual training for all volunteers, and can be done as a self-study activity.  You may access the CARP curriculum, and its self-assessment and the accompanying answer key all online.  Here’s how:

http://clubhouse.sierraclub.org/

Use the tab labeled "outings" to go to "inner city outings".

username: clubhouse

password: explore

Choose from the left-hand purple menu "ICO OLT 101"; then choose from the left blue menu "Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention".

After you've studied the curriculum, please complete the Self-Assessment.

Please notify Dave Fujiyama dfujiyama@cox.net when you've completed this on-line training, and he'll update your file.

When you contact Dave Fujiyama, you need to let him know the date on which you finished the curriculum, including the self assessment.  It’s not necessary to send Dave a copy of your self assessment, or even report a score.

If you’d rather have a hard-copy of the CARP curriculum sent to you by US Postal Service, just let Dave know by phone 949-212-1337 or email    dfujiyama@cox.net

ICO OLT 101

Sierra Club requires all adult ICO Leaders to renew their ICO OLT 101 training at least once a year.

If you're an ICO Volunteer (and NOT a certified Leader), you don't have to worry about ICO OLT 101).

If you earned your leadership through the Angeles Chapter’s LTC program, this training is valid for 4 years; after this time, you need to renew this by taking the online ICO OLT 101 course.

You may access the ICO OLT 101 curriculum online.  Here’s how:

http://clubhouse.sierraclub.org/

Use the tab labeled "outings" to go to "inner city outings".

username: clubhouse

password: explore

Choose from the left-hand purple menu "ICO OLT 101".

After you've studied the curriculum, please notify Dave Fujiyama dfujiyama@cox.net that you've completed this on-line training, and he'll update your file.

When you contact Dave Fujiyama, you need to let him know the date on which you finished the curriculum.

This will renew your ICO OLT 101 training for 4 more years.
