Bolsa Grande High School Policies & Guidelines
Attendance
The goal for all students at Bolsa Grande High School is to be high achieving students. The foundation for student success is regular and on-time attendance. The following policies are designed to encourage students to be present and prepared to learn.
Absences
If a student is going to be absent from school, a parent/guardian must call Bolsa Grande's Attendance at (714) 663-6301 or send a note when the student returns to school. Parents/Guardians will receive notification when their student is marked absent.
Please include the following information to clear absence:
- Reason for absence

- Time of departure
- Parent signature
At time of early dismissal:
- If a student is being picked up, a parent/guardian or someone on the approved contact list must come into the Attendance Office to sign the student out. Those signing out a student should bring ID.
- An off-campus pass will be issued by the Attendance Office.
- Upon return to school:
- The student must bring the off campus pass to the Attendance Office.
- If a student leaves campus without permission, absence from any classes will be considered a truancy with appropriate consequences assigned.
Excused Absences & Truancies
According to school policy, any student absence not cleared by a note or phone call from the parent/guardian will become a truancy. The following absences are examples of excusable absences by State Education Code, Section 48200:
- Illness

- Provide a letter with a copy of the parent ID

- Emergency Card contacts are not authorized to clear absences but may be contacted to pick a student up if they are ill.
Student Out of School for Non-Emergency
For non-illness, non emergency absences for multiple days i.e...vacation, business trip, non-emergency etc. Students need to make arrangements with teachers ahead of time.
A student with excused absences is permitted to make up any work/test that was missed. It is the student's responsibility to obtain the assignments, complete the work, and turn it in promptly. All work must be completed within a period of time equal to the number of days absent unless other arrangements have been made with teachers.
Students who need to miss classes to participate in school activities are expected to get prior permission, as well as assignments, from those teachers whose classes are to be missed.

- Students will receive detention for 2 tardies in a day.
- Students will receive a detention for every 4 tardies to a particular class.
- Students who continue to arrive late to class will be referred to the assistant principal
Dress Expectations
Dress for Success, Matadors!!!
The Bolsa Grande High School Dress Code adheres to the GGUSD Board Policy and Administrative Regulations to attend school in clothes that are safe and appropriate. Parents and students are encouraged to work together to ensure that all students have a school environment that is safe and conducive to learning.
The Purpose of the Bolsa Dress Code is to…
- Ensure that all students are treated equitably without regard to gender/gender identification, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, body type/size, and personal style.
- Maintain a safe learning environment in classes where protective or supportive clothing is needed, such as in the lab sciences (eye or body protection) or PE (athletic attire/shoes).
- Permit students to wear attire without fear of discipline or discrimination.
- Prevent students from wearing clothing with offensive images or language, including profanity, hate speech, and pornography.
Please do share your personal style, and please do not wear…

When in doubt about the appropriateness of an item of clothing, please check with an administrator. We’re all here to help you make good decisions.

Senior Information
Your senior year is already here! Graduating from high school is a significant milestone, and all of us here at BGHS are ready and willing to partner with you to ensure that all of our seniors successfully earn their high school diploma. Senior students need parental support now, more than ever, to keep them focused on the goal of graduating. Parents, please check progress regularly through Aeries Parent Portal. You can monitor homework and attendance, ask questions about classes, and contact the school immediately when you have concerns. This is a team effort! Students' effort and commitment to excellence combined with the support and encouragement of parents and BGHS staff will yield that coveted result – a high school diploma.
One final thought – college and career planning is accessible to all of our students. Our school counselors and College Boost, can guide your senior through the various steps necessary to choose a career path, college, and assist in securing financial aid and scholarships. We are committed at Bolsa Grande to make sure all students take the courses they need to meet college entrance requirements so all of our students have the opportunity to pursue a college degree.
Financial Aid for College and Career
Financial aid programs provide help in meeting college costs – both direct educational costs and personal living expenses. Whether your senior is planning to attend a community college or four-year university, we encourage you to apply for financial aid, regardless of your grade point average or family income. It is important that students complete the FAFSA form (Free Application for Federal Students Aid) which is the single document that determines their eligibility for most government funding. These forms are completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov from October 1– March 1 during the student’s senior year. A very important informational meeting will be held in the fall. The counselors will provide information on completing the FAFSA form. Please plan to attend with your student.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
P.E. uniforms can be purchased in the P.E. class. A P.E. package consists of shorts, shirt and lock and/or sweatpants. The cost is as follows:

Health Education/Family Life Required Course
The restricted materials used in the Family Life Unit will be displayed in the District Office Annex Conference Room in September on a date that will be announced this fall. VALEDICTORIAN AND SALUTATORIAN
The Valedictorian(s) and the Salutatorian(s) at Bolsa Grande High School are selected by the school staff. The principal and guidance staff review the 7th semester transcripts of the highest academically ranked seniors. The Valedictorian(s) and Salutatorians(s) are selected by school leaders based on the strength of the total academic program to include weighted and non-weighted classes and all grades achieved. Class rank is not the sole determiner for the selection of Valedictorian and Salutatorian. For example, the Valedictorian may not be the number one ranked student in the senior class.
Deliveries
No deliveries of items such as flowers, gifts or balloons are accepted. Food deliveries services such as Uber Eats or Door Dash are not permitted for the safety of the students.
