Classroom Expectations  

As a college preparatory course, students are expected to assume responsibility for being:  

• Respectful to themselves and everyone around them 
• ON time 
• Prepared for each class, completing all reading and assignments 
• Participate and cooperate fully in-class activities 
• NO gum, NO tech. devices in use during classroom hours unless permitted by the teacher  
• Follow all school rules    
• Digital Citizenship should be followed at all times:  

1. Use school technology only for educational purposes and class assignments. 
2. Follow all teacher, school, and district technology expectations. 
3. Keep my passwords and login information private. 
4. Respect others online by using appropriate language and avoiding cyberbullying, harassment, or misuse of another person's account or work. 
5. Respect copyright and academic integrity by completing my own work unless collaboration is permitted. 
6. Not attempt to bypass internet filters, access inappropriate content, install unauthorized software, hack school systems, or intentionally damage school technology. 
7. Report any inappropriate content, security concerns, or accidental access to a teacher or school staff member immediately. 

Artificial Intelligence (AI) 

Unless specifically approved by the teacher, students may not use AI to create or complete assignments, assessments, projects, activities, scripts, writing, photos, illustrations, presentations, videos, coding, or other coursework. Unauthorized AI use is considered academic dishonesty and may result in disciplinary and/or academic consequences. 

Consequences

2. Detention/Parent Contact
3. Referral to the office

*NOTE: Dependent on the severity of the misconduct, consequential actions can and will align with the misdeed. 

Materials 

*Chromebooks are provided to students for daily use provided the student follows digital citizenship.  

• Recommended Supplies: Dark blue or black pens, lined paper, highlighter, and correction tape. Additional materials for class projects may be used at the student's discretion. 

Course Description 

English Language Arts (ELA) is about how we understand and connect with ourselves, others, and our world through language.  The goals of this course are to:  

• Broaden student knowledge and comprehension of contemporary literature and non-fiction materials  

• Develop student understanding and value of the process of composition  

• Develop student language and presentation skills  

• Develop student critical thinking and analytic skills  

• Ensure that each student’s learning needs are met while preparing students to excel at the college level  
•  

English 1 Honors emphasizes critical reading, analytical thinking, and effective written and oral communication through the study of classic and contemporary literature. Students will read a variety of literary and informational texts while developing skills in narrative, informative, argumentative, and analytical writing, vocabulary, grammar, speaking, listening, and research.
