Hello Matadors!!!

I am Mr. Snyder. Some of you know me as Coach Snyder. Either one will do. I am in my 23rd year of teaching/coaching here at Bolsa Grande. Before my move to Bolsa, I taught 6 years at Los Alisos Middle School in Norwalk, CA. I thoroughly enjoy the students and the atmosphere here at Bolsa Grande High School.

I was raised in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA and attended Miraleste HS. That school closed the year after I graduated due to declining enrollment. I have no homecoming to go back to, so you Matadors shouldn't take that for granted. I was a two-sport athlete (Basketball & Baseball) in high school. I played 3 years of Varsity Baseball and 2 years of Varsity Basketball. I hold the all-time school record for Free-Throws attempted and Free-Throws made in one game (19-22 from the charity stripe). I may also hold the record for most turnovers in a career, but I'm not sure about that. I was a member of Interact Club, Spanish Club and the Letterman's Club. Being a member of one or more service clubs comes in handy when applying to universities.

I attended CSU Long Beach. I lived in the school dormitory (highly recommended!). I majored in Kinesiology, with a supplementary authorization in Health Science. While at Long Beach State, I participated in the Intramural programs playing both basketball and softball. I received a Bachelors degree in Kinesiology, as well as my teaching credential from CSU Long Beach. I also obtained a Master's Degree in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University.

My coaching career started at the ripe age of 19 at my alma mater, Miraleste HS. I coached Frosh/Soph boys basketball and Junior Varsity baseball. When the school closed, I reached out to one of my professors at Long Beach State, who also happened to be an Assistant coach for the men's basketball team. Soon after, I became the student assistant for the team at LBSU. My duties involved taking care of equipment, daily practice preparation, film study, scouting and travel preparation. In my two years with the team, we went to the NIT Tournament in Fort Worth, TX and the NCAA Tournament in Salt Lake City, UT. I got to travel to Honolulu, Hawaii and Lawrence, Kansas, one of the famed college basketball campuses.

I began my coaching career at Foothill High School, in Santa Ana, coaching both basketball and baseball. After 6 years, I moved to St. John Bosco HS, in Bellflower. Two years later, I came to BOLSA. Our teams at Bolsa have made the CIF playoffs every year, including 5 League Championships (2002, 2007, 2008, 2016 & 2017).

I am no longer the basketball coach.  I have added the Athletic Director responsibilities to my work schedule and am currently in my 6th year as the AD.  I am excited about all the progress our athletic teams are making.  The coaches and players work extremely hard!!  I invite you to come out and support as many teams as you can!

Our Physical Education Department is proud to offer Weight Training.  The class allows the students to access equipment such as body bars, exercise balls, jump ropes, resistance bands and free weights. There are also workout videos that put the class through an intense workout.  We are offering 3 sections of Weight Training!!  We are looking forward to making some STRONG MATADORS!!

There is a lot going on here at BOLSA GRANDE.  Please feel free to email me if you have any concerns as a parent or a student.
